I know we just talked about drywall, but this crew is FAST! It looks like the whole house is done. Of course with any job this large, there are bound to be things that were missed. I can totally understand how this was missed, but we’re putting an electric fireplace in our sun room. Its framed through to the other side, so they didn’t drywall either side. This will have to be fixed to be drywall on one side.
Previously, they didn’t understand our design and covered over the cat door on the steps. This has been fixed and cut out. In case you’ve missed it from a previous post, we have a room framed just under the stairs for the litter boxes. This helps contain the mess. There is a “door” on the stairs where the cats can access a ramp and walk down into the room and take care of their business. Its now fully open and ready for finishing.
This is the room under the stairs. Remember me mentioning the details, we didn’t need them to drywall this room but it wasn’t communicated. The crew did such a good job, there was no exit door for the cats to come out inside the room. There is an opening to the main room we don’t need. The ramp is on the right side, but now inside the wall. We told the contractor we would cut our own hole as this wasn’t planned to be a finished room so it doesn’t need the professional look.
I understand this crew works fast, but the mess left behind is hard to comprehend. I understand messy, but I feel like it would be difficult to work in this space. Most of the house looked like the room below, this will take some serious labor to clean up!
Corvin cleaned drywall like a champion while I was working my day job. I would occasionally check on him on a break and offer water, but this was mostly him just using the power of his youth and knowing I would also pay him to get it done. If he didn’t clean this, I would have had to do it. I’m quite appreciative! After work my next job began, putting up more bead board. We developed a 3 ladder system now. Our two 8 foot ladders and one from the drywall people that was still on site. We left our two in place for a full row while moving the third one from side to side. This saved us time and gave us more room to work.
As we got farther into the pile of bead board, the ones on the bottom were more straight. This meant that we could put in longer pieces. When the wood warps, it doesn’t fit tongue and groove with a long piece and you have to cut it to smaller pieces. With installation of long pieces, the job was going much faster! We managed to get the light cut out and over half way!
