Our house is really starting to feel real. For a long time, it was just framed with most of an exterior. Then we had drywall delivered. It sat on the floor in many rooms for a while, but it still didn’t feel real. Today, we showed up and there was drywall on the walls and ceiling! I watched a man on high stilts receive and place the board on the ceiling and then hold it with one hand while he put screws in with the other hand. No lift, just pure muscle and skill. That explains why only the high parts are done. Do all the things that require stilts before taking them off to finish!
The purple drywall below I was told is QuietRock. Its used to help abate noise. Since we have an apartment attached to the house, we don’t want to hear or be heard with whoever is in there. Its interesting to knock on the drywall with your hand, and then on the white board nearby. The difference is amazing. For even more quiet, the wall if framed with a 2×6 base and then 2×4 studs that alternate. This means that drywall from each side will not be touching the same studs. This is how sound travels. I’m probably being a bit extra here, but it makes me happy!
And going down the stairs to the basement.
Corvin was home for a little bit and offered his help with the bead board. It was very helpful having 3 people. Two people could stay up on our makeshift scaffolding while the other acquired materials.
We’re finally making some noticeable progress. We wouldn’t get quite half way today, but we were starting to build a rhythm.
