The majority of the time spent today at the property was on irrigation for the orchard. While we only have 8 trees planted currently, we plan to more than double that in the future. More importantly, we need to be there every other day to get water to the young trees. This takes about 20 minutes to open the electric fence and fill a bucket moving to each tree and slowly pour. Based on the current growth, we’re doing good, but we don’t want to mess up.
Its still hard to believe this was just a bare stick about a month ago. To start with, we have a main line going from the timer on the spigot between where the row of trees will go. From the main line, a small feeder line is tapped in and goes to the individual trees where its wrapped around the base inside the mulch. See the split ground below for the feeder line.
For the main line, we’ve added some white rock on top. This helps us identify where the main line is. We’ll need to dig it up when the rest of the trees are planted to tap in and provider more feeders. See the white line below with the main feeder under it.
Its been a few weeks since this work was done and we’re not bucket watering anymore. The trees are thriving and the water bill isn’t too bad. Now we start the timer for 2-3 more years before the trees will bear fruit.
In the mean time, the house is cleaned of drywall debris and mostly swept. It looks very good and we’re excited!
