My youngest brother, Henry, got married. It started with us arriving in New Florence, Missouri to meet dad. He reserved several hotel rooms. The hotel was nice and even had one room as a lounge for guests to congregate. Before long, we got the call that extra help may be needed. Dad and I answered the call and went to the rehearsal early. The directions were off because a bridge was out, causing us to second guess directions from 3 different devices. Eventually we arrived with minimal U-Turns. I called back to Danelle to relay the confusing parts and ensure their drive was better. I found Henry right away. He had me moving drinks around to prepare. We also celebrated with a beer each.
Guests started arriving and we proceeded with a normal rehearsal dinner.
After the rehearsal, we went back to our hotel. There, we gathered to have a snack and drink a beer. It brought me great joy to purchase drinks for Aunts Jane and Becky. Before long, we all called a night to ensure that we would be ready for tomorrow. Being an old man,I awoke early and headed out to the breakfast area. I went through many cups of coffee while awaiting my extended family to wake and come to breakfast.
It didn’t take long and we were driving to the wedding. We made a pit stop on the way for this lovely snapping turtle on the side of the road. I got close enough for some photos, but not so close that he felt the need to defend himself. Either he moved on quickly after the photo shoot with me, or the family that came behind us was not as observant.
I thought Dad looked very dapper in his suit today!
The ceremony was performed by my brother-in-law, Jim and he did a great job. But he did get flustered when one of Laci’s dogs interrupted, but she and Henry didn’t seem to mind.
After the ceremony, we went up to have dinner and dance. You know I didn’t dance, but I did have dinner. During this time, I got some photos of my two favorite girls!
When it was time for Henry and Laci to leave, instead of rice or bubbles, they had sparklers to light the way. It was cool, but they happened very fast! There was concern for the kids with fire, but I don’t believe anybody got hurt.
In the morning, we met in the breakfast area as the previous day. Being a close family, we had lots of laughs and teasing of each other. My birthday buddy (born on my 18th birthday) and cousin Matt was there. He made a bagel and buttered it. Then put both sides together. I teased him (maybe too much) that he was eating a butter sandwich. We got lots of mileage out of that joke.
So a wonderful weekend to see family and celebrate Henry’s and Laci’s new life together. And no I didn’t forget, here is the ONLY photo I took of the 2 of them all weekend. Guess I am a fool.
