Cutting Concrete – 10/7/2024

About a week ago, we received an email you can see below.

Hogan and Danelle,

We finally got the information needed for the snow load on the house, a load bearing of over 12K lbs per post.  This is going to require us to increase the size of the concrete under the support posts.

We will be there on Wednesday, to remove the old piers, increase the size to 30”x30” (currently 24”x24”), reinforce with rebar and repour the concrete.

As soon as we get this done, we will be able to continue framing.  The lumber company has he information and will be working on getting trusses to us as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

This means we have to wait on the work before new stuff can be done.We went out and watched as two construction workers with no PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) went to work. I couldn’t tell on hearing protection, but nothing for their eyes or lungs.

Two guys did the work. In the end, they cut the concrete and left to come back the next day and pry it out by hand.

We came back after they pried out the concrete and placed the supporting rebar in the holes. Now we just have to wait for them to be filled with concrete and the support post needed to keep the house from falling down in a heavy snow.

Now we wait.

Hogan Haake
