A few days after the basement was poured, Danelle made a follow up to see how it looks. The high view looks decent.
There is something strange that you might be able to see in the photo above. There are lines in our concrete… It turns out that the day after the pour, they came back and used a saw to cut into the floor for relief joints. It seems to be a common practice if researching it. You can see it in sidewalks and many other concrete places. However, in my current house and my parents house, there are no cuts in the floor for relief. In fact, my current basement floor is 18 years old and has a few very minor cracks in it. I bet you can tell where this is going…..
First, the relief cut. note that it isn’t even that straight.
Ohh Ohh, there is a crack forming just a few days after the pour. Yeah, tell me that happens.
Look, another crack all the way through the basement pour. 4 days later! And one more with a foot in it for perspective.
The builder says this is normal. I feel like they did something off for it to crack this much a few days after the pour compared to other basement floors I’m familiar with. From research online, it sounds like pouring when its over 90F will cause cracks. It was near 100F the day of the pour. Lets just hope that this doesn’t lead to long term problems.
