Sonora has enrolled at Missouri State University. Way back in 1996 when I was a freshman at Missouri State, I had to attend a one day program called SOAR. It stands for Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration. Fast forward 28 years and SOAR is still required for incoming freshmen. Instead of a single day program, it now has an overnight requirement. Danelle couldn’t make it, so I took two days off work to be with Sonora while she went through this.
First, we had to make some stops along the way.
A highway construction friend.
And of course the new Buc-ees gas station. Its got 120 gas pumps for cars and 53,000 feet of retail space. It was happening when we got there. Too busy in my opinion. That said, we did take walk around their lake.
We were early and walked around campus. I took Sonora over to an art installation that was there when I was at Missouri State, some stainless steel spinning thing. She laughed and tried it out!
We also went to several presentations. It felt old hat as Corvin went through similar stuff two years ago and Danelle and I both went there to school. I had lots of fun and laughs with Sonora. She was doing her best not to laugh during this presentation.
And special thanks to Danelle. She and Sonora worked out a few different class schedules before we got to this event. When it came time to select classes, the class selection and sample schedule make it simple for Sonora to get the classes she wanted and at reasonable times. And if you didn’t think that she had a good time or get overloaded with new information, here she is on the ride home.
I enjoyed every moment making memories and being part of her college preparation. She’s going to be successful and have fun! I can’t wait to see the woman she develops into!
