Replacing Kitchen Counters – 11/4/2024

We decided to replace our 19 year old kitchen counters. We’re building a new house and our realtor said its an important update for selling. Instead of just installing when we move, we wanted to enjoy the countertop for a while before the move. This also gives us a chance to live with it for while before selecting what we’ll use on the new house.

Additionally, we’re switching from a double sink to a single. Its supposed to be all the rage. Again, we’ll get to live with it for a while and see if we like it.

First, a before photo.

We learned a few things in this process. First, inspect every inch after install. We did a quick look and thought everything was good due to the radical change. Had we looked, we would have found that the installer moved a cabinet away from the wall. It was flush against the wall with the previous countertop. The installer ghosted us after they left, eventually Danelle just got angry and pushed hard and got it to go back near the wall.

Second problem, the dishwasher was put in on an angle. It didn’t close properly and leaked. It turns out they used the wrong product to attach the dishwasher to the underside of the granite. Using the wrong product is what I think caused them to move the cabinet out trying to make it work. I ended up purchasing new mounts from Lowes and installing a day later. Once done, the dishwasher was straight and the door could close completely.

Lesson learned, respect the installer, but make sure they work is good before signing off and letting them leave!
