Painting Trim – 9/13/2026

The major painting tasks have wound down. Now comes more painting and it might take the same amount of time. If you didn’t catch on from the title, we are painting the trim for the house today. This is definitely a team task. Each piece of trim needs to be moved out of the garage and placed for painting first.

Once each piece is painted, it needs to be moved somewhere where it can dry while the next pieces are painted. All while not touching the wet paint. Our solution to this was rather simple. Use the 2 8′ step ladders we purchased as a multi-tiered drying rack.

I would bring pieces out to be painted and place them on the horse shoes. Once a few were placed, Danelle would start spraying them. When the rack was full, I would start taking them off the horse shoes and put them in the ladder drying rack. When Danelle caught up to the point of waiting on me, she would move trim as well. We probably could have used a third person to keep her painting the whole time. By the time all of the levels of the ladder were full, the sun had dried the top layer. Then I would pull them off and start gently stacking them in the garage for future use.

As we have said many times before, it feels good making progress on the house with our own hands. While it does save us money, the pride we have in our work means just as much!
