Our First Utility, Water – 5/15/2026

I’ve been waiting impatiently for our water to be hooked up for a while. I’ve had many phone calls with our plumber and the water company. How bad could it honestly be? Looking back at my notes, I called the utility on 4/8 and updated them on our build and the desire to have water. I filled out the application and was told it was likely the next week we could have our water installed. I emailed a week later as we didn’t have any water. A few vacations of water company employees later, we were starting to communicate. The water company wanted our plumber to run the lines. The plumber said, if we run the line and you don’t like the placement, we’ll have to re-work. Eventually I got the plumber and the water company on the line. The location was set. Today we showed up and our plumber had trenched and ran all the lines. Now the water company can inspect and then hook it up.

So no, we still don’t have water 🙁

This is where the water comes into the basement to service the house.

The trench from where the water main is coming towards the house.

This is where the water comes into the house. From the right is where the main is. Straight ahead into the house. And continuing on to the left for orchard.

I have a yard hydrant. This frost free hydrant is what we’ll use to water our orchard. Time to purchase some trees!

And back to the waiting game for water to be hooked up. But we’re completely ready, right?
