Leveling Part Two – 8/24/2026

Our painting phase is coming to an end and we’re getting ready to put down flooring. A vendor has been out one time and needs a second pass to finish their work. There is a high spot that needs to be ground down in addition to more leveling. They came out and we’re now seeing their work. First the good. It appears that the floor is level enough to place floors down in the basement. They also did some repair on the dirt they tore up trying to back the truck into a spot it didn’t belong (but only after I mentioned it).

Now for the bad/unfortunate. They were quite messy and didn’t respect our tools. Our push broom was used by them and left some leveling compound on the bottom. We’ll have to clean it or trim the bristles that have the compound on them. Somehow, they spilled a drink in the hall they were not working in. Not sure if it will wipe off, be covered by trim, or have to be re-painted. They also splashed some leveling compound on the ceiling.

I’m glad the work is done and that my builder is paying for it, but I can be disappointed at the work.

On a progress we made while waiting side, we were not sitting idle. Danelle was working inside getting the bathrooms ready for tile. I was outside moving dirt. Not a glamorous job, but something that needs doing. There are several places to twist an ankle and I don’t want that. Plus its harder to mow on a rough surface.

We also finished putting up bead board on the front porch today! This is a project that has started and stopped as other things came up. Like many things, it was more difficult than we expected.

Time to go “home” and relax!
