Another morning walk with Danelle. Nothing super duper exciting to report. We wandered by the local medical school. Oh, and one strange thing. We purchased some candy at a large grocery store. When we went to check out, the lady said something in rapid fire Spanish, then took two pieces of candy away. Danelle thought she said something about not being in inventory. Just the same, its frustrating not knowing what is going on and having things you want to buy be taken away. Back at the house, I attempted to purchase tickets for El Zanjón: Tunnels & Mystery but it wants random information I don’t know how to give. So instead of having tickets, we’ll have to just show up and see what happens. Two frustrating purchases in the same day. Like just freaking take my money!!!
All five of us walked to lunch. Hogan, Corvin and Sonora shared a pizza while Danelle and Coty got sandwiches. The service was exactly the opposite of last night – very quick! After lunch, Corvin went off on his own to collect more streets while the four of us made our way toward El Zanjón. About a third of the way there, the girls decided their feet needed a break. They relaxed in a park for a bit, then got an Uber while I walked the rest of the way.
El Zanjón was pretty interesting, blending history of the families who lived there with local and national history and information on day-to-day life back in the day along with a bit of architecture. The tunnels under the building had been created to bury a local stream which had some issues due to the upstream land uses (eg, slaughter houses) and the general use of the waterways as a waste disposal system. The streams were diverted a few decades later and the tunnels were ‘lost’.
After the tour and an Uber ride home, we decided to have a night in. Corvin and I got take out from our favorite Venezuelan place. Coty pointed out that this would likely be our last dinner together for a long time. It was reminiscent of when she left the US. We watched a movie and finished off some of the many drinks we’d accumulated. Danelle worked on travel plans for tomorrow, securing a late check out and trying to see if we needed to prepare for flight changes due to the winter storms coming through both Atlanta and St. Louis.
