We have never built a house before let alone a custom house. With my background as a software developer, I find it annoying when somebody sees my work before I’m finished. It is often incorrect until it all comes together at the end. Why did I say both of these things. That is because our basement floor was bad! I assumed that after it was poured, there was more to do on the builder’s end. I just knew it would all work out. Danelle on the other hand mentioned to me and the builder more than once that the basement floor (concrete) was not level. We both ignored her.
Almost 2 years to the day, and now we pay the price. Well, the builder gets to pay the price as they approved the work. The floor had more than an inch of difference between the lowest and highest spots. The more you walked on it, the more obvious it became. Our floor wasn’t going to work and only a very thick carpet would somewhat hide the fault. Therefore, we pressed the builder to resolve this issue. Enter our leveling vendor. I don’t know why, but they only come to our house to work on Saturday. We showed up a few hours after they left.
The first thing I noticed was their trailer in the driveway followed by giant ruts in the dirt. Very ironic when you see the tagline on the trailer “We take pride in all we do”.
It might seem like a little thing to complain about, but this is our road back to the rest of the property. It will make driving back there harder. Worse thought, it will be difficult to get the mower from back there for the rest of the property. Sadly, this wasn’t the end of our issues. They emptied out the trash can straight into our wheelbarrow so they could use it leaving us with dust and garbage. There were signs they used some of our tools including leaving leveling compound on the push broom.
I’m no expert on the floor leveling, so the jury is still out.
On the bright side, we did shopping before we came out to the house. We purchased and labeled all of the light fixtures for the house and purchased tile for the bathrooms. It is all stacked nicely waiting to be installed.
While I’m not totally satisfied with the condition of the house after the floor leveling, things are getting done.
