Small Update – 5/3/2025

We’re now up to current time. There are 3 strange square holes in the floor of the kitchen and master bath. We believe they are related to the work for strengthening that side of the house for potential snow load. We’re also a bit concerned because if something comes up through those holes, it’ll be in the middle of the kitchen cabinets and where the master toilet is supposed to go. Our project manager said it’ll all make sense and its no big deal. Lets hope this isn’t foreshadowing for a bigger let down.

Our front door is installed. I’m not sure its worth the insane amount of money they charged for it.

Last in the photos, the covered part of the front porch is installed. They also make the cutout we were looking for in the porch. There is still supposed to be a large arch over the front of the porch that isn’t done.

Danelle has been after them for the silt fence to keep the drain for the street clear. They finally came out and fixed it for the second time.

At this point in time, we still don’t have a roof! Its getting crazy. They kept waiting for some vendor to get back to them and they have finally realized he is never going to call them back. As luck would have it, we had to replace the roof on our current house last month. The company that came out was fantastic. They communicated well and were prompt! I sent their info to the builder as they are fully licensed in Illinois. I also called the roofer to let him know the quote he was working on was for my house via referral. He was grateful and said he would get it turned in promptly.

Per our project manager, the whole project is basically on hold until we get a roof installed at this point. Its extremely disappointing that our contractor has trusted a roofing vendor that doesn’t communicate. Then again, it makes sense as our contractor is also terrible about communicating. I’ve been nice so far and I guess I’m going to have to start pestering them with calls since they don’t call me with any updates.

Crossing my fingers that the next update is about an installed roof so the house can get done. This month, May, I’ll be writing my 3rd check for construction insurance. May of 2023 was when we signed the contract to build the house. So we’re 2 full years into the process.
