Journey to Argentina, Day 9 – 12/31/2024

Holy cow, its New Year’s Eve! We got up super late this morning. Corvin, Danelle, and I went into town to attempt to exchange USD. I say attempt because after tries at two different Western Union locations, we gave up. That didn’t stop us from stopping at a pharmacy for some over the counter cough medicine. Danelle and Sonora have been fighting a mild cough and sore throat, but now I am coughing, too. We also found a small grocery store where we got some drinks and a huge bag of pizza flavored snacks to take with us tonight to the family festivities.

Back at the house, we have started packing our bags to leave tomorrow for Buenos Aires. Its hard to believe we’re on our 9th day of this vacation and we’re not quite half way done. Lunch was hamburgers at the Ripoll house. After lunch, we went back to the house. I decided to lay down for a bit. Eventually my alarm went off and I snoozed it till I just shut it off and slept. I woke up to a full blown cold and not feeling super great. I might have just stayed home, but I was the only driver for the rental car.

We left for the New Years party and stopped by a butcher to pick up a pig. It must have been cooked as they didn’t have any BBQ grills going. The house where they had the festivities is where Coty and family lived in San Juan before moving south to Rio Turbio when she was 3. Francisco expanded this house from its original size and it had an amazing open area out back where we ate dinner. Perfect for regular rain. Danelle and I took lots of photos so we can integrate several of the design ideas into the outdoor spaces of our new house.

With not feeling great, I was more of a fly on the wall during dinner and eventually sat in a corner laying my head against the wall and slept. I heard a few things and looked up, but generally napped for about 30 minutes. I started getting a sinking feeling. Next thing I knew I fell out of my chair. Turns out the plastic leg bent and dumped me out.

It wasn’t long until we celebrated the end of 2024 and the start of the New Year. With how I was feeling, we only stayed another hour before it was time for us to go home. Since we would be leaving to Buenos Aires the next day, Coty came with us and we got to bed around 1:30am.
