Sonora’s Coat – 10/24/2025

Sonora’s away at college 3 hours away from us. She was talking to mom on the phone and complained about how cold she was. Also that she forgot her coat at home in St. Louis. We didn’t have much going on that weekend, so we decided to just drive to Springfield and bring Sonora her coat. She was surprised and pleased that she would have her coat!

No trip to Springfield would be complete without going to Walmart to get things she was missing. She likes to let loose a little when we’re around. So we started holding hands and skipping in the parking lot. When we got in the store, she realized that her phone wasn’t with her. I volunteered to walk out to the car and find it for her. At this point, I want to say she is extremely lucky! I generally park in the back of the lot to get more steps walking around. Nearly to the car, I noticed a cell phone just out in the ground of the parking lot.

Yep, there is Sonora’s phone, undamaged in the aisle. We were fortunate that nobody saw it and walked away with it or that a car drove over it! Sonora was relieved that her phone was okay and realized it came out of her pocket when we were being silly skipping on the way in. If you know me, you’ll know I was going to ask her about every hour if her phone was in her pocket for the rest of the weekend. I wouldn’t have teased her if it didn’t turn out happy and she wasn’t too annoyed with me. Then again, she was still in a decent mood, as she posed with this hat for me!

We wanted to do something with Sonora and decided to try out the Botanical Garden. It was a bit cold and not really season for it, but we enjoyed walking around. We got some lovely photos and were the only people there with the cold weather. I can’t complain as I spent time with two of my favorite people!

On Sunday, we took our time getting up at the hotel. Then we picked up Sonora and took her to a sports bar to watch the Chiefs game together. While they didn’t win, we got more time with Sonora. Then back home to St. Louis for another week. I’m glad we made the choice to bring Sonora her coat.
