I wanted to go paddling today. We also needed to get Carol (Danelle’s mom) out of the house. I called and asked if she would like to go paddling and she said yes. The boats were packed and we were off to pick her up. At Carol’s house, she came outside with sweat pants on. It was too warm for that. Danelle got her changed to a single pair of pants, but she was still a bit overdressed to be outside in the heat. We headed on over to Simpson Lake. This would have the most shade and be the best environment for her.
With the boats unloaded, it was instruction time. I’m not sure Carol has ever been in a canoe before.
It didn’t take long before she told me she was too hot and to take her back to shore. I was worried this might happen the way she was dressed. I convinced her to hang on and quickly paddled to shade under a nearby tree. That did the trick for the moment as Danelle and Sonora got in their boats and on the water. I then raced across the lake to the other side getting us back into shade again while I waited for the girls to catch up. My goal was to head to Grand Glaze Creek that feeds the lake. The creek is paddle-able for a while and provides lots of shade! Here are the girls caught up before my next dash to shade.
We made it to the creek and I jumped between the shade. Carol even got into paddling. Forgive her for holding her paddle backwards.
Eventually, Carol slumped down in the front seat and just enjoyed the ride.
We enjoyed some food and water mid paddle. Overall it was a great day and we were out of the house for a few hours!
