Pre Thanksgiving – 11/22/2025

With kids in two different cities, its hard to get together anymore. They were drawn to the same city by the promise of overpriced KC Chiefs tickets paid for by dad… So the weekend before thanksgiving we all converged on Kansas City to have a pre thanksgiving meal with my dad. He’s got plenty of room in his house for all of us. We all arrived in town on Friday ready to be together. I’ve learned that we need to have activities when we’re in town to keep us out of the house. One of our favorite activities is pottery painting. Saturday morning we met adding in Henry and Lacy. It sounds silly, but after painting, the pieces are fired and glazed creating unique personal things. We tend towards coffee mugs. Dad has made several of them.

Here is Dad, Madison, and Danelle looking through the pieces that are available to paint.

Sonora painting

Henry and Laci decided to tag team a larger piece.

Hanna showed up late (which is normal) and proceeded to out art all of us in less time.

Corvin with a pirate theme

Danelle picked this strange mug. Its hard to tell from how she is holding it, but one of the sides is lower. This means it doesn’t hold nearly as much liquid as one would expect.

Once painted, we would have to wait a few weeks for them to finish and return our final product. Now, we were a quick visit to the grocery store and  meal prep for our dinner. The kitchen was busy full of helpers doing all sorts of things.

The meal was fine and we enjoyed each other’s company and conversation. Then Sunday, we had one more thing to do before going back home, a KC Chiefs game. I payed way too much money for 4 tickets. Danelle, Sonora, Corvin, and Madison went to the game together.

And while they were at the game, Dad, Hogan, and Hannah watched the game at the casino.

We were much warmer watching in the casino and it was easy to step away if the game didn’t go as expected. Hopefully we’ll have many more thanksgivings with dad, but maybe without the expense of the Chiefs game 🙂
