Gamers of HLL Meet Up – 8/29/2025

Sonora and I are both very into a game called Top Heroes. It is a role-playing strategy game, a multi-player online dungeon adventure, and a great way to meet and chat with players from all across the world. We have gotten to know several other players pretty well online and decided that it would be fun to meet a group of them in-person. Since most of the folks were coming from Midwest or East Coast areas, we picked Lexington, KY as the place to be for the holiday weekend.

To kick things off, Fatima (from New Jersey) and Adam (from UK) flew to St. Louis. Hogan and I took them paddling on the Mississippi River from the Chain of Rocks to the Arch while Sonora was driving home from college. She met us at the Arch to help Hogan with the shuttling while Fatima and Adam visited the Arch and I watched the gear (and played some Top Heroes on my phone).

Adam had a bucket list of items he was hoping to do, including having burgers from White Castle (he’s a big Harold and Kumar fan) and visiting Wal-Mart. We were able to help him check those off the list!

Meanwhile, Fatima was perfectly happy to enjoy Coatrack and the other cats!

When we all made it to the Air BnB in Lexington, we introduced ourselves and promptly got down to business.

We really didn’t spend much time playing the game during the trip, but I think there was an organized boss battle event or something, so we all pitched in. Instead, we watched a few movies, played pool in the garage, ate, drank, and did touristy things.

We went to Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co. for a tour and tasting (beer and whiskey). Sadly Sonora was not able to participate, but she and Melissa enjoyed Capri Sun pouches instead.

We also visited a racetrack called Keeneland. There were no races that day, but we were able to go in and give ourselves a self-guided tour. And being a playful group, we had lots of fun!

When we made it back to St. Louis we made a necessary stop at the best Cuban restaurant in the region: Havana’s Cuisine!

It was a fun trip and it was nice to get to know a few of our fellow gamers on a new level. Some of us are already talking about another trip in the future!!
