Fourth Of July – 2025

We started our holiday celebration on the third. Danelle was invited (with the family) to the Audobon Center to view Alton’s fireworks. There was a nice gathering there. We started by viewing the sunset over the river and it didn’t disappoint.

I was busy teasing Sonora while we waited for the fireworks to start. It was like she was a young girl again, but we laughed.

After the fireworks, it was time to go home and get to sleep. We got up and were out the door by 9 am to go view the Webster Groves parade. I dropped off Sonora and Danelle and then drove home and rode my e-bike back to the parade. This worked well to get the girls and chairs there and not fight traffic. They were kind enough to send me a text showing where to find them.

The parade was nice. I was sad that I didn’t have a float as I had done previous years, but also a bit relieved not to stress over it. After the parade, I biked back home and got the car to pick up the girls who had started walking. We’ll have to take this approach again as it worked out quite nicely.

Now we were on to our second event of the day. JoJo had a pool party at her house from noon to 6. We decided to take two cars so Sonora could leave early and get ready for our last event of the evening. But first, we had to get our surprise for JoJo. She complained that her pool water was too hot. I decided to make her an ice cube in a 5 gallon bucket. It came out in one peice and just barely fit in the cooler.

Meanwhile as I’m preparing the ice, Danelle is getting all dolled up, and I was very impressed [as usual].

The ice cube went over well, and melted extremely fast in a strange shape.

Eventually Danelle and Sonora went back to the house and I stayed to talk with people I don’t see very often. As I was chatting away, they were dying each other’s hair.

To nobody’s surprise, we ended the evening viewing fireworks. It was a lovely way to spend the holiday!
