The saying “no good deed goes unpunished” became very true for our family this year. This time specifically, Corvin came home to St. Louis to visit us. I was feeling generous and offered him money to fix the air conditioning in his car. Its been broke since we purchased it several years ago. This all happened back in July of this year. He dropped it off at the shop. To make a long story short, the shop broke the car during the AC repair. The were fixing it on their own cost, but the repair kept dragging on. Eventually the shop had it towed to Toyota as it wouldn’t start and they couldn’t reprogram the new computer. Toyota required both keys for the fix. The second key was in Wisconsin in Corvin’s apartment.
Corvin had already missed a day of work hoping the car would be fixed. Ultimately we sent him home with Danelle’s car. Once home, he sent us the second key. Obviously the car was fixed or I wouldn’t be writing this. Danelle is quite fond of her car and this weekend was the first time our schedules synced up where we could meet in the middle and swap cars.
I wish I could say the drive was uneventful. As we were coming into Hannibal, MO, it started pouring rain. Corvin’s car started hydroplaning at highway speed as the highway was starting to turn to the left. I pulled hard on the stalk that controls the cruise control to cancel it. I panic pulled and broke it right off. It was the longest hydroplane event I can remember of my life. Without the cruise control accelerating us, we slowed till the tires got traction and we made the turn in the highway with room to spare. I would insist that Corvin get new tires for the car before winter (my treat).
The rest of the drive was uneventful and we met at a restaurant just north of Iowa City, Iowa. There we met Corvin and Madison. We had a nice meal together and went on a short walk as well. About an hour after meeting we were back headed where we came from. Danelle was happy to have her car back.
