State 41 – Rhode Island

5/30/2021

Here we are entering the smallest of the United States. Corvin and I spent some time joking that we would ride across the whole state in one outing. However the state is approximately 37 miles tall by 48 miles long and that is more than I’ve ever done in a day. It did however feel like we saw most of the state. It took multiple tries to find this state sign. We did several laps around the area before we found a state sign to pose by. From the sign driving back to the location we would ride, I felt like I already knew the place.

The sign above was a great and unexpected welcome to the parking lot where we would ride. True to the nature of this trip, it was raining for most of this ride. I’m disappointed with the weather for this trip. Its not something that we could control, but we also didn’t have the time to wait it out. This left me a bit jaded towards the east coast. It didn’t leave us with the happy, “This is amazing”, feelings we’ve had for so many other states we’ve been blessed to ride in. Looking back, this was a nice ride and a very cool ride. Its interesting to note that Rhode Island is the second most densely populated state of the lower 48. But riding the Blackstone river bikeway didn’t give that impression at all.

The goose above started swimming right towards us once we were in site. Guess its used to being fed.

We had this pathway mostly to ourselves, but we did see a few others out braving the rain. It wasn’t as exciting as other paths as it was mostly long and straight. It did make me want to come back with a bicycle to cover more distance and see what other wonders it had to offer.

Still wearing our constant companion of a rain jacket. They also kept us warm as it was still cold outside!

I wish we took more photos of this trip. Guess you’ll have to wait for the video to come out to see more.

Our Strava Entry.

Of course we didn’t ride 56 miles. I forgot to turn off the tracker for this ride 🙁 Not just on Strava, but also on my watch. Below is a recreation of an approximation of what we rode.
