State 33 – North Carolina

3/16/2020

We had an early ride planned before a full rest day!

We were riding just outside Raleigh, NC on the Neuse River Trail. It looked interesting on the map with a few bridges that would be fun to cross.

Parking was interesting, not because there was not enough, but because it took two tries to find the entrance to the lot. Once there, we began right away crossing a bridge and riding along the river. I nearly rode over a baby turtle that was not as wide as my tire!

We stopped several times to film and enjoy the river and wetland next to it.

It was refreshing to listen to the water flow by.

After our ride finished, we walked over to check out the sand beach.

You’ll have to wait for the video to come out to see the fun this ride really was as we didn’t take many photos. However, there is more to this state. My good friend Steve’s parents live in Statesville, NC and I tried to pay them a visit. While they were not home, I still commemorated the visit!

We had plans to spend the full next day in North Carolina as an off day. I have wanted to climb Chimney Rock for a long time. I was in the area and this was my chance. Unfortunately, when we got there, a rock slide blocked the parking lot. And due to growing COVID-19 concerns, they didn’t want to shuttle people in there to see it. It’ll have to be another visit!
